Frequently Asked Questions

What will I be doing if I do volunteer?

You will be working alongside the CCE Marine team to count, measure, and clean the oysters for the months of July and August. It is done once a week on a Friday or Saturday morning and you are welcome to attend whenever you can. Attendance is not mandatory for every session, and you can bring your kids, family, and friends along as well! A tent is put up for shade and water is provided.

How can I get involved?

At the bottom of this website is a contact form. Just fill it out if you are interested in either purchasing crates and growing oysters or being a part of the volunteer team. A member of the CCE Marine team will be in touch with you soon!

If I buy oyster crates, what does that process look like and what do I do with them at the end of the summer?

Each crate is $200 and will be filled and dropped off to you by the CCE Marine team in July at your convenience. When dropping it off, the team will educate you on how to care for your oysters and answer any questions you have. You will hang the crates off your dock and clean them at least once a week and at the end of the summer they will be collected and will be placed onto one of the restored oyster reefs.

Can I purchase oyster crates for my privately owned dock to grow?

As of right now, we are not letting the public grow them on their own personal dock spaces. If you want to be involved and are not a member of a participating yacht club, please visit our public site.

Can we eat these oysters?

You can NOT eat these oysters! They are used only for restoration purposes and only planted in uncertified waters. They are not cleared for consumption.
